Kia ora Whānau!  Well our school grounds are definitely getting a good watering this week! Firstly, thank you to all parents who we have already seen for learning conferences, we really appreciate meeting with you and continuing to grow that connection between home and school. It has been so pleasing to hear the children share their learning and progress. It is one week until the holidays, so keeping that in mind we have decided as a team to not post any work for the children on the Hōpara website, instead next week we will be doing activities based around our shared story, coding and potentially more science!  Student Recap - from Richie, Benji and Jackson!   This week we have been learning how to play the quandary game. The game is all about making ethical decisions. If you make the right decision you get points and we had a leaderboard. We have got right into learning conferences where we share our learning to our parents with the teachers. Also some of the kid...

Kia ora Whānau! We have had another fabulous week in Hōpara - although it has been very cold! Below Cooper has given you a recap of our week!  Weekly student recap!  In week 10 of school we did numerous things such as seed planting and our school cross country. Cross country was held at school on Wednesday it consisted of 5 - 7 laps of the whole school . In buddy groups we did seed planting it was where we planted seeds in egg trays . We would also wrote our names on popsicle sticks so we knew who grew the seed. Kia ora Whānau! We have had another fabulous week in Hōpara - although it has been very cold! Below Piper has given you a recap of our week!  Weekly student recap!  This week in Hōpara we have been doing lots of work! Last week we were finishing our experiment on how to "make it rain" in Auckland. After that we started to think of making ethical decisions. Lots of experiments failed and worked, now we had to make an ethical decision, which meant we needed to think of the consequences. We also had to ask ourselves key questions to make a decision, like will this make things better? and will this respect others? This took a lot of thinking in our groups to try and make a decision. Overall most of our experiments were causing harm. This was a great time to show our values in our learning. Two of the most values we used were positive relationships and experts at discovery, because we were thinking deep into what the consequences could be and also we weren’t just focusin...

Hōpara T2 Week 8 Notices

Kia ora Whānau Wow week 8 has flown by! Below is a recap of our awesome week! Weekly student recap - Thanks Josh!  This week Hōpara had to change one thing in our investigation to make it rain in the jar i.e. I have put fabric around the jar to keep it warm. It was a success except the ice melted. I think next time I need to use more ice.  We are still doing the same as lockdown with maths and literacy and everyone is getting better at using a device. In class we had a coding challenge to make a drone drop a seed and the seed turns into a tree, everyone had a go, we were so close to finishing the code. Mr B and Dionne have organised a basketball tournament after school. There are 3-4 players in each team and some teams might play multiple games . The first game will be this Friday if the weather is good.     By Josh Pascoe  Remember to check out our Hōpara website  https://sites.google.com/clarkville.school.nz/hopara-2020/...
