Wk 12 Happy Holidays!

Kia ora Whānau! 
 
Over the last two weeks Nick, Linda and myself have thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all for learning conferences and we thank you for your enthusiasm and support for what we do at Clarkville. Although the beginning of the term was a little strange, the children came back to school positive and eager to continue with where we had left off. Lets hope next term is not so unsettled (fingers crossed). On behalf of the Hōpara team I would like to wish everyone a wonderful two week break! Keep warm and we will see you all next term! 

Term 2 Student Recap
"We started this term in lockdown where we received and submitted our work online, we had weekly Zoom meetings and learnt a lot of valuable tech skills. Thankfully we were able to get back to our friends, oops I mean back to the classroom after a couple of weeks of the term starting. We decided to keep online learning going for the rest of the term. We have done lots of fun inquiry and science investigations together in small groups. These challenges have helped us work on our communication skills, maths and literacy skills and most importantly we had lots of fun. Some of my favourite challenges were trying to make rain in a jar, building flying foxes and doing different tests with them and also building seesaws to compare different weights. For the last week of this term we have done fun activities based around our amazing serial story called “Why the whales came”. The most exciting part of this term though is that we had a yummy shared lunch and watched lots of movies to finish it."

  Kia ora Hōpara Whānau  We have just reached the half way point of the term, gosh it has gone fast! We have had quite a bit of sickness in our class over the last fews, we thank those who have stayed home to reduce passing it on. This week we began our inquiry into bottle water, the students came up with a series of initial wonderings which they explored further. Week 7 Blog Post

 Kia ora e te Whānau  I hope your children have come home this week excited about their role in the upcoming production?! I know we are all excited for you to see it in action. Nick and myself have been sick over different days this week, we are lucky to have such an amazing class who behave for whoever is in front of them #grateful! As the next two week commences our core learning programme will get thinner due to the time frames we have, we are also mindful of not adding any extra stress to your children at this busy time!  Head-lice:  Let's keep on top of it until the end of the year with nightly checks - much appreciated Nick and Ashley  Sun Hats:  Could all parents please make sure their child has a blue bucket sunhat, the consequence now for not wearing a hat is sitting under the shade sail for the entire break time. Hо̄para Week 2 Term 4 Blog Post

Kia ora Hōpara whānau  Wow this week has been very eventful with students in Hōpara competing in the Duathlon and our annual athletics day. It was wonderful to see all of our team giving every event their best shot, encouraging each other and striving for personal excellence. Thank you to all of the parents that attended, this makes the day so much more special for the children!  I would also like the opportunity to introduce our two student teachers Zara Toohey and Ashley Nuttall. They are both 1st year students and have slotted into our space perfectly - we feel very lucky to have them with us for the next couple of weeks.  Production:  This has been underway with staff over the last few weeks and we are now at the stage where students will be selecting their "team item".
